Canada set for refugee influx as U.S. ends protection status for Nicaragua

Friday, November 10, 2017

The Canadian government says it will be ready to handle any new influx of irregular border-crossers following a policy decision in the United States that could send more people fleeing north.

On Monday night, the Trump administration confirmed that it will end temporary protection status for citizens of Nicaragua, many of whom have lived in the U.S. for nearly two decades. About 2,500 people are expected to be directly affected.
