Canal man launches telecom venture in Nicaragua

A telecom owned by Wang Jing, the Chinese businessman who was awarded a concession to build a $50 billion transoceanic canal in Nicaragua has launched operations in the nation, official media said.

Xinwei Telecom Enterprise Group of China will compete with Spain's Telefonica and Mexico's Claro, which are already providing Internet and telecom services in the country.
