India's Spices Planters' Association staged a protest against imports of cardamom from Guatemala at the Spices Board of India's headquarters in Kochi.
"Some traders are mixing low-quality Guatemalan cardamom with our premium cardamom, resulting in the quality and domestic prices going down," said M M Lambodharan, general secretary of the association.
"With current prices, we wouldn't be able to meet even the production cost," he said.
