Cardamom futures in India now rally on this year’s lower Guatemalan crop

Wednesday, January 5, 2011

Cardamom appears all set for another season of high prices with futures steadily showing an upward trend.

The major reason for the bull run this time is the production shortfall in Guatemala, the largest cardamom producer.

The Guatemalan production this year was initially estimated to be at around 20,000 tonnes, marginally higher than the previous year. But now the indications are that the output will be smaller.
