Cargo in Panama ports falls by 12 percent this year

Panama’s six ports moved 12 percent less cargo in the first seven months of this year compared with the same period of 2015.

In part the problem was apparently caused by a decline in the world economy and of Latin America in particular. But what also contributed was the lack of adquate port facilities on the Pacific Coast.
