Carlos Slim renews bid to acquire Digicel in El Salvador

Tuesday, April 24, 2012

Mexican telecommunications company América Móvil, owned by tycoon Carlos Slim, has announced it will make a new attempt to acquire Digicel in El Salvador.

In 2011, América Móvil dropped its plans to buy the Salvadoran and Honduras operations of Digicel due to disagreements over the conditions.

Representatives of Claro, a subsidiary of América Móvil, said that the acquisition would mean América Móvil will control 40 percent of El Salvador's telecommunications industry.
