Central America prepares a $3.5 billion fruit salad

Central America is the world’s ninth leading exporter of fruit, with Costa Rica and Guatemala at the vanguard and $3.5 billion a year in exports.
Only three fruits -- bananas, pineapple and melon -- account for 97 percent of all the fruits exported by the region.
