Central America seeks $4.2 billion for reconstruction after October rainfall disaster

Central American presidents called in San Salvador for $4.2 billion to help the region's reconstruction following the losses caused by massive rains that swept the region in October.

The region's governments called fror the aid at a meeting in the Salvadoran capital with 50 representatives of donor countries, multilateral financial institutions and aid agencies.

The president of El Salvador, Mauricio Funes, said that the $4.2 billion "is well beyond the financial capacity of our countries. That is whey we are calling on the solidarity of friendly countries and international bodies."
