Central America sets a record in renewable energy

Thursday, November 3, 2011

Central American countries in 2010 produced 65 percent of the energy they consumed from renewable sources.

The level of generation using water, geothermal sources, sugarcane and wind constitutes a record for the sub-region, said the Economic Commission for Latin America.

In terms of companies, the commission highlighted Colombia’s Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM), which acquired important power companies in El Salvador, Panama and Guatemala for a total of $800 million.
