China exports more to Guatemala than does Mexico

Wednesday, February 20, 2019

China exported 10 percent more to Guatemala last year. Indeed, it exported more than Mexico, making it the third leading destination of Guatemala's imports.

The United States accounted for 38 percent of Guatemala's imports last year with $19.7 billion, followed by the rest of Central America with $2.3 billion. China came in at $2.2 billion and Mexico $2.1 billion.

The nature of the Chinese imports has changed over the years. At first they were largely of very cheap manufactured goods; now they include higher volumes off value-added and technological products.
