China to finance new-look Costa Rica public transport

Wednesday, April 3, 2013

Costa Rica’s Minister of Environment and Energy, Rene Castro, toured China last week in an effort to strengthen environmental cooperation on clean energy.

Castro’s primary purpose of the trip was to convince China to fund the replacement of Costa Rica’s fleet of taxis and buses with “greener” vehicles, a mission he said he was able to accomplish.

Castro explained that Costa Rica was able to secure long-term loans of approximately $50 million toward the project.
