Chinchilla courts high-tech investors for Costa Rica

Thursday, September 23, 2010

In a US trip coinciding with a United Nations visit, Laura Chinchilla, the Costa Rican president and a trade delegation met with technology-related corporate representatives in New York this week as part of a push to meet foreign direct investment targets.

The firms, which officials would not name, included companies that are considering establishing new businesses in the country, expanding already established operations and looking into the possibility of investing for the first time.

Business representatives at the meetings, who were mostly from technology and advanced manufacturing firms were particularly interested in the ability of the country to provide a workforce with the right education levels to support the investments, Chinchilla said.
