Chinese $1.43 billion bid wins contract for Panama Canal bridge

A consortium of China Construction Communication and China Harbor Engineering won a $1.43 billion contract to build a fourth bridge across the Panama Canal.

Originally, on the basis of a combination of technical points and price, a unit of Spain's Dragados was reported to have won a tender for the bridge some weeks ago.

But later the committee to judge the bids was dissolved and the result postponed. Once another committee had been formed, Dragados withdrew its bid without explanation.
