Chiquita and Del Monte eye Panama bananas

Food production and distributions firms Chiquita Brands and Del Monte proposed a project to Panamanian farmers to boost the country's banana exports.

The companies' plan to harvest 2,000 hectares, for which Chiquita will invest $36 million and Del Monte $50 million.

Part of the plan is to pay each landowner $450,000 each year, among other benefits.
