Chiquita Brands to return to Chiriqui, Panama

U.S. firm Chiquita Brands will reactivate its banana growing and exporting operations in Chiriquí, Panama, from early 2015.

"There is still no fixed date, but the reactivation for production and exports in Barú, Chiriquí, is moving forward. It is likely to begin early 2015," said Panama's director of industry at the Ministry of Agriculture, Edwin Vergara.

Chiquita Brands will work on an area of 1,755 hectares that belong to the Association of Individual Producers.
