Clean energy allocation

Monday, April 2, 2018

Two projects aim to combine science, engineering, mathematics and meteorology to ensure reliable energy from renewable resources.

The World Bank, supported by the aid agencies of Spain and South Korea, is developing a program that uses leading-edge science to allocate renewable resources, in a way that avoids power-outages while reducing costs.

The Clean Energy Corridor for its part was launched in 2015 as a joint program among the Central American countries.

The Corridor, which seeks to share surplus electricity from renewable sources, is organized and financed by the International Renewable Energy Agency, based in the United Arab Emirates.

Energy allocation could be a solution for a region which has significant clean-energy options, especially hydropower and geothermal.

Last summer, millions of Central Americans between Nicaragua and Honduras were without power for several hours.
