Climate change could cost Central America up to $73 billion, says UN report

Thursday, December 9, 2010

Climate change is expected to cost Latin America 1 per cent of its gross domestic product each year.

Disasters and extreme weather will take their toll on production, according to a report by the UN Economic Commission for Latin America released at world climate negotiations in Mexico.

The study says Central America is at particular risk and could lose the equivalent of $73 billion in gross domestic product by 2100 under the most pessimistic scenario.
