Colombia plans to confront foot-and-mouth disease
Tuesday, July 25, 2017
After several countries closed their borders for Colombian beef, the country is seeking solutions to end sporadic outbreaks of foot and mouth disease before suffering even more economic losses.
The South American country has already called a sanitary emergency after relatively isolated cases of infected cattle in the provinces of Arauca, Cundinamarca, Caldas, Antioquia and Santander.
According to Agricultural Minister Aurelio Iragorri, the most recent cases stem from the ongoing cattle smuggling from neighboring Venezuela.
