Commentary: Criticism of Costa Rica’s opening of insurance market is unjustified

An insurance broker said that the Costa Rican regulator, Sugese, is dragging its feet on obliging the state-owned company, the INS, to face competition.

But these comments are unwarranted, writes Javier Cascante, Superintendent of Insurance.

Registration and licensing procedures are clearly regulated, and evaluation criteria are of public knowledge.
