Confusion and chaos in Mexican airport consultation

Friday, October 26, 2018

Less than 200,000 Mexicans voted all over the country on the first of four days of a "citizens consultation" on whether to back the $13 billion plan to build a new Mexico City airport.

The poll was held not by the government but by the future administration of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who takes power as president on December 1.

In effect it put the future regime to the test, but it was marred by confusion, doubts on the way the poll was conducted and a general lack of interest on the part of the public.
