Contraband costs Guatemala $2 billion a year

Guatemalan business leaders say that contraband in the country has grown to more than $2 billion a year in goods ranging from rice to cement.

The main causes, they say, are the porous frontiers with the country’s neighbors, the devaluation of the Mexican peso, and the growing scourge of corruption.
