Costa Rica aims to boost taxes and lower deficit

The government of Costa Rica is planning to present a law that would increase tax on consumption and lower the country's deficit.

The law will be sent to Congress next year, and is part of the country's plan to go into the global debt market, said Finance minister Edgar Ayales.

Ayales said the aim is to lower the deficit from 5 to 2 percent of the gross domestic product by 2018.*
