Costa Rica and Nicaragua are region's safest countries

Costa Rica and Nicaragua are the safest countries in Central America, according to a poll by CID Gallup, conducted recently.

Honduras and Guatemala on the other hand are the countries with most criminal activity over the last four months.

This is worrying for the region's private sector, as reports of violence frightens off foreign investment. In El Salvador for example, the private sector spends an additional $600 million a year in security.
