Costa Rica approves free-trade pact with Singapore

Costa Rican legislators passed a second and final vote on the free-trade accord with Singapore that the government believes is vital to achieving a closer relationship with Asia.

The treat, which was signed by both sides almost three years ago, was ratified by 39 votes in favor and five against.

This is the second trade accord that Costa Rica has approved with an Asian nation. The first was with China, which came into force in May of 2011.
