Costa Rica banana volumes slip in China as competition and transport rises

Costa Rican banana shipments to China fell last month due to high transport costs and mounting competition from the Philippines.

Banana exports from Costa Rica to China fell 3.85 per cent year-on-year last month due to high transport costs and mounting competition from the Philippines.

Costa Rican foreign trade agency Promer said banana volumes to China in May were down by 29,797 tonnes compared to the same time last year to 797,471 tonnes. In value terms, exports fell from $311 million to $299 million, it said.
