Costa Rica clears way for bids to open cellphone market

After a long and arduous process, the opening of the cellular telephone market in Costa Rica is clear.

The deadline of yesterday passed without any new objections being filed with the authorities. Bids for the three licenses on offer are due December 14.

Those expected to bid are: Cable & Wireless, América Movil (Claro), Telefonica (Movistar), Digicell and Millicom (Tigo).
