Costa Rica considers introduction of electric train service for central provinces

Thursday, December 15, 2011

The Costa Rica has set its sights on introducing an electric train service for the four provinces of the Central Valley -- Alajuela, Heredia, Cartago and San José.

Although diesel trains are part of the urban landscape in Costa Rica, they may give way to the electric trains with the arrival of experts from the state railway in Spain to study costs, design and technology.

Train use in Costa Rica has grown each year since the urban train, with morning and afternoon rush hour service, began operating between Pavas and San Pedro several years ago.
