Costa Rica earned $2.2 billion from tourism last year

Costa Rica saw a 12 percent increase in the money spent by tourists last year, according to the Costa Rican Tourism institute.

Tourists last year spent $2.19 billion, compared to the $1.9 billion a year before. It is also the highest amount of money spent by tourists in the last 12 years.

North America continues to be the main supplier of tourists, with 51 percent of the 2.3 million who visited the country.
