Costa Rica government asks Mallon Oil Company for new environment studies

Friday, July 15, 2011

Costa Rica’s environment ministry has asked the U.S.-based Mallon Oil Company, which to specify the exact locations where it intends to being exploring.

The environment minister, Teófilo de la Torre, said that Mallon must also expand its environmental feasibility studies as a prerequisite for exploration.

However, it has been reported that a decree signed in 1998 would allow Mallon Oil to obtain a contract for oil exploration without presenting a comprehensive environmental study.
