Costa Rica has edge in maritime dispute

Costa Rica would have an advantage in the race with Nicaragua for the potential oil and other resources in the Caribbean, following the judgement issued yesterday in favor of Costa Rica at the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

The judgement gives Costa Rica sovereignty over Portillos island, so providing clear rights to maritime territory.
