Costa Rica leads digital readiness

Thursday, June 21, 2018

Costa Rica is third in Latin America, behind Chile and Uruguay, and first in Central America, in terms of fitness for the digital era, says Cisco’s 2018 Digital Readiness Index.

All three are in the “accelerate” category – countries which would benefit from development of human resources, improvements in basic human needs, and advances in the ease of doing business.

Haiti is last in the Latin America-Caribbean ranking.

The index is divided into three stages of digital readiness: activate (lowest), accelerate (intermediate) and amplify (highest).

Most Latin American countries are in stage two.

The index measures the digital preparation of 118 countries, evaluating the impact on competitiveness, generation of employment, attraction of investment, and promotion of innovation (numbers in brackets indicate the position of each country in Latin America).

1 Costa Rica (3)

2 Panama (4)

3 El Salvador (11)

4 Guatemala (14)

5 Honduras (16)

6 Nicaragua (17)
