Costa Rica leads region in insurance sales

Costa Rica beat Panama to the region's top spot in personal insurance sales, Costa Rican daily La República reported.

The country now accounts for a third of the region's insurance market, and reported a 40 percent growth in policy sales in the first quarter this year, compared with the same period in 2013.

Personal insurance policy sales generated $137 million in the first five months of this year, compared with $80 million in the same period in 2011.
