Costa Rica mulls competition in gasoline sales despite state Recope monopoly

The wave of open market and competition is taking Costa Rica by storm with the fall of monopolies on insurance and telecommunications.

Now, competition may come to gasoline prices, though Recope will continue to be the state monopoly on production and wholesale distribution.

Aresep, the regulator of public prices and services is pushing a plan to boost competition in the sale of fuels.
