Costa Rica plans to resign from the tax haven gray list

Monday, August 9, 2010

Accusations that Costa Rica is a tax haven will soon disappear, along with its presence in the “gray” list of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

In future, tax authorities are to be given powers to have access to personal bank accounts so long as a judge gives permission. So far, such powers are granted only in alleged drug cases.

The change in the rules has yet to be approved by a bill presented to legislators.
