Costa Rica ponders tax on fast food, soft drinks

Officials from Costa Rica’s social security system, or Caja, reported the agency will allocate just over $5.5 billion of its budget for covering public health care expenses and pension payments in 2016.
That figure is 8.5 percent higher than what was invested this year, so the agency is evaluating new revenue sources that could include a new tax on soft drinks and fast food.
