Costa Rica records a $1.7 billion trade deficit in the first half of the year

Costa Rica closed the first half of the year with a $1.71 trade deficit, some $760 million more than in the same period of last year.
 
In the first six months of 2010, exports came to $4.8 billion, an 11 percent year-on-year increase, but imports surged to $6.5 billion , up from 23.5 percent.
 
In a separate report, the Trade ministry ratified the 11 percent increase in exports.
