Costa Rica’s cellphone revolution finally arrives

Monday, September 19, 2011

The signs of what was forecast as long ago as October 2007 has arrived ... the end of Costa Rica’s state monopoly in cellphones.

The two companies that bid for a group of frequencies, Spain’s Telefónica and América Móvil, are putting the final touches to their preparations before coming on stream within at most two months.

Several signs of their presence have emerged. The most recently were an advertising campaign launched by Telefónica’s Movistar brand in the streets, media and social networks.
