Costa Rica's fiscal deficit stands at $1.7 billion

Costa Rica's fiscal deficit up to August this year represented 3.4 percent of the country's gross domestic product, said the Minister of Internal Revenue, Edgar Ayales.

He said that despite the figure, which represents $1.7 billion, the government maintains its predictions of ending the year with a figure of less than 5 percent.

Among the positive aspects was that total tax income in the country was up 9.7 percent in the first eight months of the year, Ayales said.
