Costa Rica's medical tourism faces obstacles

Costa Rica's medical tourism sector is facing obstacles due to a lack of certified establishments, Costa Rican daily La República reported.

Of the 1,200 companies which offer medical services to tourists in the country, only 30 have an international accreditation by Promed.

As a result, insurance companies, foreign medical companies and tourists in general prefer to seek investment and treatment in countries such as Mexico and Colombia.
