Costa Rica's new Convention Center needs a boost

The nation's capital, San José, is regarded as the ideal place to locate the new Costa Rican Convention Center. But seven months on from the center's inauguration, it has yet to realize the potential of its location.

The problem seems to be that San José offers tourists an abundance of one-day tours and the airport is handily placed only 18 kilometers away. The result is that many people who attend conventions never get to know the capital's gourmet dining and its cultural attractions.

Today, hoteliers and tourism industry leaders are meeting today to work out a joint strategy.
