Costa Rica's public-sector unions plan protests against monthly wage increase of $10

Leaders of the unions of public sector employees in Costa Rica are preparing to take action against the government's unilateral decision to increase public employees salaries by 5,000 colons a month, just under $10.

Albino Vargas, president of the Asociación Nacional de Empleados Públicos described the decreeas a "joke".

Vargas added that the move will broaden the gap between the rich and the poor and that the discontent could end up with demonstrations in the streets.
