Costa Rica's Supreme Court freezes debate on plan for fiscal reform

Friday, December 16, 2011

Costa Rica's Supreme Court announced that it will take into consideration an action of unconstitutionality against the fast tracking being applied to the discussion of the fiscal reform being proposed in the Legislature.

The request was filed by Luis Fishman, opposition legislator and former presidential candidate.

The justices clarified that this does not prevent the continuation of the discussion of the bill in the legislature and vote in first debate, but prohibited the second vote that is necessary for the bill to become law.
