Costa Rica’s top court rules that telecoms towers cannot be blocked by municipalities. Claro and Movistar to benefit

Tuesday, November 22, 2011

The Costa Rican Supreme Court announced that municipalities can no longer block the construction of telecommunications towers.

The court ruled that, because the Costa Rican government approved the construction of the towers, municipalities are not authorized to obstruct the process.

Dozens of telecoms towers and antennas have been built this year throughout Costa Rica. Most are being built by the cellular telephone market entrants Claro and Movistar.
