Canadian miner Industrias Infinito will not be allowed to develop the Crucitas mine in Costa Rica, for now anyway.
In what has been a classic case of environmentalists against mining companies, the Supreme Court has unanimously confirmed a lower court’s verdict that annuls the mining concession.
There can be no appeal to the decision.
However, Infinito is expected to push for a resolution of the conflict through international arbitration, which could involve a claim of $2 billion.
