Costa Rica state electricity utility orders austerity

Wednesday, March 20, 2013

Costa Rica's state-owned electricity utility, the ICE, has been ordered to take stern austerity measures to cut burgeoning costs.

The plan includes cancellation of all job vacancies, labor mobility and the purchase of the cheapest power available in the market, no matter who produces it.

The measures aim to cut costs as a means of halting increases in tariffs.
