Costa Rica to achieve 100 percent penetration of cellphone market within year

Thanks to the arrival of new companies to the market and the advance of new technologies, Costa Rica is expected to have 100 percent cellular penetration within a year.

Currently, there are seven cellphones for every 10 persons in the country; very soon there will be 10.

The big winners in the newly opened cellphone market are people with low incomes. The companies are concentrating on products, such as pre-payment schemes that are designed to favor the less well-off.
