Costa Rica to keep close eye on public spending

Costa Rica's next step in controlling its fiscal deficit is to control unfunded spending, Costa Rican daily La República reported.

The government currently spends 57 percent of its budget on unfunded projects, which means authorities have no flexibility in controlling expenditures.

Costa Rican tax authorities have proposed to modify spending on areas such as education in order to reduce the deficit.
