Costa Rica to tackle trade of contraband goods

Costa Rican authorities are seeking ways to stop the trade of smuggled goods, as it now accounts for 10 percent of the country's total trade, Costa Rican daily La República reported.

The British embassy in Costa Rica is organizing a meeting this week that will gather representatives from the region's governments and companies in order to find a solution to an industry which last year generated sales of up to $1.9 billion.

The majority of counterfeit goods are cigarettes, liquor, movies and children's toys.
