Growing numbers of Costa Rican universities are offering virtual courses or even full degrees for students who only have to appear inorder to receive their certificates.

Traffic chaos in the San José metropolitan area has spurred many students to opt for distance learning, particularly those who live in the provinces or who combine work and study.
