Wednesday, August 4, 2010

René Castro, the Costa Rican foreign minister, said that his country’s relationship with China is mature. Where the two were regarded as being donor and recipient, they now regard as each other as equals in day-to-day relations.

Last Sunday, the Chinese foreign minister, Yang Jiechi, visited Costa Rica, the only Central American country that has relations with Beijing.

During the visit, Costa Rica presented the minister with a proposal to extend a $229 million highway that would unite the Caribbean with the north of the country.
